Making Tax Digital

It feels like we’ve been warning our customers about Making Tax Digital for years now (that’s probably because we have!) but the time is nearly here! By now I’m sure you’ve done your research and feel confident that when the time comes you’ll be prepared for the legislative changes. Don’t forget, your first quarterly VAT return after April 1st needs to be using the MTD functionality found in your Pegasus software, so you need to be prepared in plenty of time!

If you still have any questions or require any training, please remember you can contact your Account Manager to schedule some time with our Pegaus. You can call us on 08000 195 101, or email us on sales@profile.co.uk with any questions / queries.

Spotlight on Profile

From selling Window-Making software that linked to Pegasus accounts packages in 1989 (coincidentally the same year the internet was born), to making Pegasus products our focus and introducing hardware services to become a total IT solutions company, Profile has been evolving over the last 30 years to best suit the needs of our customers. We have been supporting our customers software & hardware, offering advice for how to get the best out of their IT & infrastructure and, more recently, assisting companies with the move to hosted networks as cloud computing becomes the norm.

Even after 30 years we aren’t slowing down either, as Profile has been recognised as the top Pegasus Partner in the whole of the UK, have been shortlisted as Business of the Year in the Thames Valley Business and Community Awards, and have recently been awarded a Year on Year Partner Growth award by Zen Hosting! Just another testament to our longevity, adaptability and the trust that our customers have in our support & services.

End of Support for various Microsoft products

Microsoft has formally announced that they are ending extended support for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and SBS 2011 in January 2020. Also, you may have missed Windows Server 2012 support ending in in October 2018, which means you could be running your business on outdated, unsupported software.

What does this mean for your business? Well, if you’re still using Windows 7 or Windows Server 2012, you should be thinking about updating to Windows 10 and Windows Server 2018. This will futureproof your business and ensure you are receiving the latest features, security updates and patches. If you’re worried about the compatability of your operating system with your software or want a free of charge hardware audit, contact your Account Manager, call us on 08000 195 101, or email us on sales@profile.co.uk.

Pegasus Seminar update

profile logo

Looking back at our Live Making Tax Digital Seminars!

At the end of January into the beginning of Feb we hosted 3 live seminars across the country updating our customers on the latest developments from Pegasus, the Making Tax Digital changes that are coming to Opera 3 and the Payroll chances for the 2019 financial year. Our time on the road is over now and I’m pleased to say that the seminars were all a success!

We had an excellent turnout at all 3 of our events, with lots of handy information about how Opera 3 SQL SE differs from standard Opera 3, how Pegasus WebXchange and Mobile Sales can be a benefit to your businesses field sales team, and how you can be ready for Making Tax Digital and the Payroll new year. This was all presented very thoroughly by Pegasus Product Expert, Steve Power.

Attendees were encouraged to interrupt with questions whenever they felt like they had something they wanted to know or share, creating more dynamic and involving sessions. It was great to see customers discussing their worries and opinions with their fellow Opera users, as well as members of the Pegasus and Profile teams. From our feedback it seems like everyone came away having learned something new, with a lot of uncertainties about the new legislative changes being quelled.

Thank you to everyone who came, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon. If you were not able to make it this time, please keep an eye on our Events Page for any future seminars and events that we are hosting. If you have any questions about the products or topics that were covered, please feel free to contact your Account Manager.

Opera II, Microsoft Server 2008 & Windows 7 Support – That’s a Wrap!

We always warn our customers when a piece of software is coming to the end of its support, and this time we have 2 announcements for you.

Microsoft has announced that the extended support for Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 will end on January 14th 2020. If you’re using Windows SQL Server 2008, then extended support is ending even sooner, on July 9th 2019. If you are still using either of these softwares once extended support ends you will NOT be supported by Microsoft or Profile for any problems that may occur, and any future updates to Microsoft or Pegasus software can cause compatability problems. Speak to your Account Manager now or call us on 08000 195 101 to discuss your options for upgrading to compatible software.

As you should be aware Pegasus Opera II won’t be receiving an upgrade for the 2019/2020 payroll year and won’t be updated to support Making Tax Digital legislative changes in April 2019, so if you’ve been waiting to upgrade to Opera 3 then now is the time! If you are not using supported software by April 2019 you will not be able to upgrade your payroll or submit your tax digitally which will cause major problems across your business. You should already be speaking to your Account Manager about your options, so be sure not to let time run out.

Cyber Security: Our 5 top tips

Cyber Security: 5 top tips

Cyber Security is a hot topic right now and for good reason. Making sure your network is safe from viruses, cryptolocker malware (that holds your files for ransom), hackers stealing your information and malicious emails will save time, money and potential loss of data. You never think it can happen to you until it’s too late to fix.

We’ve put together 5 top tips that you can do now to reduce risk to your network, have a read below!

defense

1. Daily backups

It is essential to have regular system backups, not only in case of infections but also for disaster recovery. Backups can be cloud based or on a physical tape, and can be set to automatically run at intervals of your choosing. It is recommended that your backup runs at least once a day.

2. Don’t open emails or attachments you don’t recognise or are unsure about

The simplest way to prevent Ransomware and viruses affecting your system is not to let it in, if it’s an email address you don’t recognise, a file you aren’t expecting or a subject you don’t understand, don’t open it or click on any links! Opening suspect emails opens the front door for viruses to enter your system and there’s nothing you can do to stop it once you’ve opened the door. Make sure all your staff are aware of this, as it only takes one email to access your entire system.

3. Ensure you have the latest protection solutions

Antivirus software, anti-spam filters, and firewalls are designed to prevent or alert users to threats before they happen. Making sure you have the latest version of the best solutions is imperative to the protection of your system.

4. Regularly install patches and updates for Windows and other software.

Microsoft, as well as other software vendors, regularly release patches and updates for servers, desktop or laptop PCs, tablets and smart phones. These updates are designed to keep you safe and can usually be done automatically if enabled in the settings. It is also important to ensure that your operating system is on the latest version too.

5. Routinely change your passwords

Having a simple or easy to guess password that you rarely/ never change is a huge weakness in your security, these viruses are designed to find weak links like this and access your system and files with ease. Changing your password once every 6 weeks and having secure passwords (using numbers, upper case letters and symbols) means one less way for these hackers to get in.

If you are at all concerned about the safety of your business please talk to your account manager about arranging a hardware and security audit, call us on 01442 236311, or send us an email at sales@profile.co.uk.

Pegasus announces official Making Tax Digital support

profile pegasus

Dear Customer,

We’ve been talking about Making Tax Digital for a while, our series of live Seminars that took place across December of last year focussed on making you more aware, and we’ve been keeping you up to date with the latest in our newsletters and email communication, and today we have a little more news for you.

Pegasus have always been committed to providing complete MTD support in their Opera 3 products (with Opera 2 support ending before MTD legislation comes in to effect) but today they have been officially listed by HMRC as a software supplier with VAT compatible products in development. This means you can have peace of mind that your Opera 3 solution is going to be supported and totally compliant with all the new legislative changes.

You may not be aware that the functionality to submit your VAT returns via Opera 3 already exists, and understanding how it works is vital. If you would like to learn how to take advantage of this prior to the end of the tax year then please email us at sales@profile.co.uk, call us on 08000 195101 or contact your Account Manager via your normal channels.
